Obiettivi Formativi

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

The course aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge related to the Law of International Organizations, with particular reference to the United Nations Organization and Regional Organizations, suitable to enable them to undertake specialized study or research paths or, again, realize their professional prospects in International Organizations. In particular, the course will focus on comprehensive legal knowledge of the phenomenon of International Organization, with particular reference to its most recent institutional dynamics.

The course aims, first and foremost, to enable learners to have a mastery of the tasks, structure and functioning ofthe UN and Regional Organizations as well as the main legal problems that characterize each of these areas, acquiring tools to be able to understand and place the International Organisations’ interventions in new crisis scenarios that arise on the international scene.

 

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

 

The course is intended to provide students with the knowledge and methodological tools necessary for the development of the ability to understand the main features of the Law of International Organizations, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to concrete cases.

Indeed, the course aims to enable students to apply knowledge of international law and international organizations’ law to specific areas of international relations that are at the same time the subject of intervention by international and regional organizations.

 

ADDITIONAL EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

Autonomy in judgment:

The teaching aims to stimulate the student's ability to critically address the main issues covered by International Law and International Organizations, especially, their repercussions on the dynamics of the International Community.

From the knowledge learned during the course, learners should demonstrate the ability to critically analyze the acts of International and Regional Organizations, agreements and international soft law instruments.

 

Communication skills:

The acquisition of communicative skills is stimulated through direct and participatory discussion during lectures and seminars and is aimed at the student's autonomous and critical reworking of the subject matter with logical-legal rigor and ownership of language.

 

 Ability to learn:

The ability to learn, stimulated by supplementary teaching materials (official documents and scholarly journal articles) and lectures that will see the active participation of students also with the help of participatory teaching methodologies, seminars and workshops, is aimed at applying the knowledge and understanding acquired on the historical and evolutionary profiles of the Law of International Organizations to concrete cases, to undertake specialized studies or subsequent research with a high degree of autonomy.


Prerequisiti

PREREQUISITES

Good knowledge of English is an indispensable prerequisite at the beginning of the teaching activities as well as a knowledge, at least basic, of International law.

PROPEDEUTICITY: There are no propedeuticities.


Metodi didattici

The organization of the teaching activities involves alternating face-to-face lectures, in-depth seminars and workshops held by experts as moments of reflection on case studies representative of aspects of the program covered during the face-to-face lectures or of current events in order to stimulate the ability to applythe concepts covered in the course to concrete cases. To this end, case studies will also be identified from time to time in consultation with the students.


Verifica Apprendimento

The examination consists of a single oral test to be taken at the official examination sessions. Language in which the examination is conducted: English. The elements on which the assessment will be based are: mastery of legal vocabulary and reasoning; demonstration of knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the legal institutes strictly pertinent to the question posed by the lecturer; clarity, logicality, completeness, conciseness, methodological rigor of legal expositions and arguments; demonstration of concrete ability to solve legal problems also through essential references to doctrine and jurisprudential orientations; with regard to the conclusions reached, ability to adequately argue them.
