Sicurezza alimentare, clima e instabilità politica nel Mediterraneo allargato: orientamenti per il Piano Mattei in Africa
ProjectThis research project aims to provide an analytical foundation for understanding how the relationship between climate and food security affects political stability in the broader Mediterranean region. The research will focus on contexts where water scarcity reduces agricultural incomes; where rising food prices increase the cost of public measures to support prices and food consumption (such as subsidies, price controls, or assistance programs); and where political instability disrupts the continuity of production. In some instances, climate-related pressure precedes a political crisis; in others, conflict and institutional crisis exacerbate issues of food access and diminish the state’s capacity to protect its population. The project will also highlight Italy’s role within multilateral forums dedicated to food security.
