Antonio Rainone was born in Naples in 1955.
From 2002 he is Associate Professor at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, first of Logic and Philosophy of Science (M-FIL/02), and then (From Juanary 2017) of Philosophy and Theories of Languages (M-FIL/05).
1981: Laurea (First degree) in Philosophy, summa cum laude, Univ. of Salerno.
1989: PhD in Philosophy, Univ. of Urbino.
1989-1993: scholarship at the LUISS University, Rome, with teaching experience in Philosophy and Methodology of Social Sciences.
1997-2002: Adjunct Professor of Philosophy of Science (Univ. of Salerno); Adjunct Professor of History of Contemporary Philosophy, then of Logic (Univ. of Naples “L’Orientale”)
Editorial Activities
1988-2008: Editor, author and consultant for philosophical entries and articles, Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, Rome.
2014-…: Member of the scientific board of “Studi Filosofici”, the journal of the Department the Department of Human and Social Sciences.
2017- he awarded the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for the position of full professor in Sector 11/C4 - ESTETICA E FILOSOFIA DEI LINGUAGGI.
Full professor from April 2024.
Topics of interest and research
Reasearch and pubblications of A. Rainone deal with issues in analytic philosophy. He has devoted his attention to the action theory of Donald Davidson and the relations between intentionality, causality and rationality. He then explored the relationships between normative and descriptive models of practical rationality. Moreover, he was concerned with the issue of the interpretation of language and behavior that emerges from the problem of "radical translation" put forward by W.V. Quine, highlighting the importance of the concept of empathy. He then pursued this issue in recent theories of philosophy of mind (Simulation Theory).
