Sex workers' intersectional experiences in Berlin

Chapter
Publication Date:
2021
abstract:
The goals of the present study are to show evidence
of how multifaceted and polymorphous the world of sex work is
as well as to raise awareness about a new unbiased way of perceiving sex workers. The investigation puts the focus on two fundamental aspects of the lives of sex workers, which provide a
deeper insight into their subjective perspective: body perception
and identity construction. Through the analysis of narratives and
metaphors, the study will investigate how sex workers talk about their body perception and how this perception intertwines with processes of identity construction. Ultimately, this investigation
seeks to understand how sex workers are socially constructed
and how they challenge the knowledge on sex work, which is institutionalised within the contemporary German society.
