La radio à transistor est un objet iconique de la guerre d’Algérie. Si Frantz Fanon avait immédiatement compris l’« importance exceptionnelle » de la radio dans la lutte pour l’indépendance, c’est avec le putsch militaire d’avril 1961 que la nouvelle technologie rentre dans l’histoire politique française. L’article se focalise sur la fonction d’un « objet » qui marque profondément la « culture de guerre » propre à ce conflit, et en particulier l’expérience des appelés français.

The transistor radio is an iconic object of the Algerian War. If Frantz Fanon immediately understood the “exceptional importance” of radio in the fight for independence, the new technology entered French political history with the military putsch of April 1961. The article focuses on the function of an “object” that deeply marks the “war culture” specific to this conflict, particularly the experience of French draftees.
