An essay on Emma Dante's dramaturgy and theatre. Dante was chosen to be included in the Routledge Companion to Contemporary European Theatre and Performance as being the most significant theatre artist from the Italian scene. After an overview of Dante's work, the focus of the essay is on the original way Dante deals with the past, which is analyzed through the critical lens of Giorgio Agamben's notion of the contemporary.
