Dispotismo orientale e Islam. Riflessioni sulla storia di un concetto

Abstract: In questo saggio si studia il rapporto tra il concetto di
dispotismo orientale e l’Islam, inteso come una religione che è
stata spesso presentata dagli autori occidentali come un movimento
connotato da un forte spirito guerriero e che si espanse per
mezzo della spada e non della predicazione pacifica. Nell'articolo
si esaminerà anche il pensiero di autori classici quali Aristotele,
Rousseau e Machiavelli, Marx e Weber sul tema del dispotismo
orientale e dell’Islam.

This essay studies the relationship between the concept of Oriental
despotism and Islam, understood as a religion that has often been
presented by Western authors as a movement marked by a strong
warrior spirit, which expanded by means of the sword rather than
peaceful preaching. The article will also examine the thinking of
classical authors such as Aristotle, Rousseau and Machiavelli,
Marx and Weber on the subject of oriental despotism and Islam.
