abstract:
César Vallejo’s literary production includes a short novel in the fantasy genre, Fabla Sal-vaje, and other stories of the same genre, like «Los caynas», included in 1923 in the sec-ond part of the short story collection Escalas. The first part of the volume is a sample of Vallejo’s prison literature, written and published within the walls of the Trujillo peniten-tiary, where he was imprisoned from November 1920 to February 1921. The aim of this article is to detect the relationship between the fictional elements of Vallejo’s fantastic production and the Latin American discourse on the exclusion of otherness from the modernizing project and the construction of a racialized social separation.
