Fra Tirreno e Adriatico: Mario Torelli e gli scavi di Cupra Maritima

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2022
abstract:
From the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic Sea: Mario Torelli and the excavations
at Cupra Maritima · In September 2012 Mario Torelli attended a meeting
at Cupra Maritima (ap), concerning the excavations just completed after
two years of research. On the occasion he discussed the role of the ancient
Etruscan sanctuary dedicated to goddes Cupra and the results achieved during
the stratigraphic digs done at the site of the Roman colony. The proceedings
of the meeting have never been published, but thanks to the transcription
of the lecture’s recording it is now possible to know his impressions on
some aspects of the use of the Forum and on the chronology of the monumental
planning of the Roman city, dated by him to the Augustan age. The
text is preceded by an introduction to the site and about the buildings located
around the Forum.
