Geoarchaological Investigations at Mahal Teglinos (K1, Kassala). New insights into the Paleoenvironmental History of Eastern Sudan
Chapter
Publication Date:

abstract:
Although archaeological exploration of Eastern Sudan is in progress since 1980, very few data on
the paleoenvironmental history of the region were made available so far. In this paper the results of recent
geoarchaeological investigations conducted at the site of Mahal Teglinos (K1, Kassala) are discussed. It is suggested
that arid conditions emerged very gradually in the region, resulting from a long process perhaps ending only in the
2nd millennium BC. The impact of this process on the adaptive strategies adopted by the inhabitants of the region
and on its cultural history are also discussed.
