abstract:
The first part of the book deals with the main events in the history of Lusatia, with an in-depth look into the daily life of the Sorbs, their popular culture, and their literature. Particular emphasis is placed on the complex relationship between the Germans, who have been a majority group in Lusatia since the late Middle Ages, and the ethnic minority of the Sorbs. Apart from the quotations from the original sources, the book contains a review of the most recent specialized literature on the history and culture of the Sorbian Lusatia.
The second part, which covers about half of the book, is a unique anthology of texts and other Sorbian linguistic and literary materials, presented in the Czech translation. The anthology is organized chronologically; it starts with the eldest period and ends with contemporary Sorbian literature.
