L’armeno nella pianificazione linguistica sovietica

Chapter
Publication Date:
2018
abstract:
This article investigates the peculiar position of the Armenian Language within the Soviet linguistic planning, as a relevant exception to the general movement towards the Latin writing which characterised the first period of the Revolution, and extensively involved the languages of the Caucasus and the Central Asia. On the contrary, Armenian traditional writing was not abandoned, but only reformed in its orthography in two successive interventions (in 1922 and 1940), which are illustrated in detail. The reason of the maintenance of the Armenian writing is indicated in the «graphic loyalty» assigned by the Bolshevik ideology to developed (bourgeois) nationalities and peoples, like Armenians, Georgians, Greeks, Hebrews, Germans etc.
