abstract:
Main element of continuity in grammatical teaching between 7th anf 9th centuries is the persistance of Latin as a vehicular language for grammar treatises, even if they are not directed towards non-native speakers. Only around the year 1000 did a first grammar written in a vernacular language (Old English) appear.
