Political anthropology needs to be viewed as closely linked especially with philosophical anthropology, but also with economic anthropology, anthropology of industry and commerce, and other related fields. The chapter concerns the origin and evolution of political anthropology, its conversion from evolutionism to functionalism, and finally its diversion from functionalism to following the course of cultural ecology and American neo evolutionism. Chapter analyze the so-called procedural approach and the theory of action, the dependency theory, and the systems theory. Considerable space is devoted to the issues of power and analysis of power, especially Michael Foucault's contribution to political anthropology. In closing is analyzed the actual status of the Marxist perspective in political anthropology.
