abstract:
Italy, with its cities, culture and history, is widely present in the Shakespearean thatre and many plays, both tragic and comic, are set in Italian cities, each presenting a specific cultural charcaterisation. In particular, in The Merchant of Venice and Othello, Venice represents trade and commerce as well as the border between different worlds. Rome is analysed as the place of power, machiavellic plots and of a new political vision through Titus Andronicus, Cymbeline and the three Roman plays
