abstract:
After a brief introduction , the article uses the geo-historical perspective to analyze the relationship between retail and urban dynamics in the historic center of Naples. Then the changes that have led from the commercial monoculture of the nineteenth-century to the modernization in the twentieth century are retraced. Subsequently, the focus shifts to the transformations that have characterized the retail geography of Naples and, especially, its core, since the second World War up to current trends. In the essay, the recovery of the historical dimension of the developments that have marked the relation city-retail in the historic center of Naples has been read not only in the light of economic and material aspects, but also in that of the socio-cultural phenomena that are related to retail.
