Abstract:
The modernity of the Shakespearean tragedy is in the representation of the sense of man's fragility, in a period in which man has to relate to a changing world where all the previous dogmas seem to be lost. Comedy is also pervaded by the sense of tragic which often appears through the loss of identity, an element which makes Shakespeare's theatre still particularly significant today. Shakespeare's great tragedies and some of hs comedies are analysed in this perspective.
