Cartografie della Provincia di Napoli

This work illustrates the section “ Cartographies of the province of Naples” concerning the catalogue of the Exhibition – sponsored by the provincial administration – realized on the occasion of the bicentenary of its institution. The exhibition focused on a wide survey of development processes of the Neapolitan territory – as local authority – from its origins in 1806 to 2006. In the cartographic section two itineraries have been delineated to highlight these transformations and to point out the dynamics of the administrative articulations of the provincial territory. The first one shows both the reworking of some cartographies of the 19th century on GIS base and new maps with geo-referenced system, that allow, through the superimposition of the political-administrative borders of the municipal districts of the present province, to outline the territorial changes occurred. The second one reconstructs the variations of the local boundaries within territorial framework of provincial administration since Italian Unification to this day, thanks to the realization of original cartographies. The maps have been chosen to mark the most meaningful periods of Italian history between 19th and the 20th centuries.
