Even if many Koreans are still claiming their racial "purity", within the Neo-Confucian thought, historical evidence shows a very different situations. In this book focused on man-woman relationship (that is, a relationship still strongly influenced by Confucianism), the author shows, by means of evidence provided by historical and archaeological sources, as sex-related matters in Korea have had various and complicated aspects according to the historical periods. The second part of the volume presents the complete translation of two Korean classical novels (The tale of Queen Inhyon and The Tale of Yi Ch'unp'ung) where the custom of concubinage results either in a tragic end or in comic end.
