abstract:
The essay considerates the presence of Virgil’s Eneide in Italian and Hungarian heroic poem, through the study of Tasso’s “Gerusalemme liberata “ and Miklòs Zrìnyi‘s” Sziget siege”, an heroic-religious poem written in 1646.
Through comparative readings of both texts, is spotted how imitation of Virgil by Hungarian poet has been mediated through the Italian poet; is also spotted suggestions by Tasso on Zrìnyi and, moreover, collected affinities (thematically and structurally ones) and discrepancies between Tasso’s “Gerusalemme liberata” and Zrìnyi’s “Sziget siege”.
