abstract:
The essay considers Fogazzaro’s relationship with nature in the light of the ideological and cultural coordinates of the late nineteenth century. In the author’s first poems it is possible to notice an early contamination between mysticism and realism on which, at a more elaborate formal level, the representation of the landscape of Piccolo mondo antico is based. In this novel, the scenario of Valsolda plays a decisive role in the development of the events : in fact, the description of the places presents both characteristics of verisimilitude, typical of historical novels, as well as a musical dimension in which the themes of romantic conflict and patriotic sacrifice overlap
