Realtà e fate morgane: la lettura del Compromesso del 1867 nell’Eroe dei miraggi di László Arany

In the context of studies on the literary representation of Hungarian history, the Ausgleich of 1867 occupies a lesser place than the treatment of the great tragedies of the Hungarian nation in the Middle Ages, the modern and contemporary ages. This article analyses László Arany's work The Hero of Mirages (A délibábok hőse) and in particular the story of the main character, an "idealist" who soon has to face a series of failures and retire to the countryside, excluding himself from "History" and thus representing the national events of Hungary during the analysed period.
