Terrore e letteratura: il dramma insuperabile della guerra civile nella letteratura ungherese del Novecento

Analysing the political and social situation in Hungary after the First World War, it is usual to speak of "red terror" and "white terror": this essay, starting from a brief history of terror in its manifestations documented by literature and historiography, describes the Hungarian "declinations" of the question, already in the period following the revolution and war of independence of 1848, but more fully in relation to the period after the First World War, presenting the analyses of contemporary works (by Cécile Tormay, Dezső Szabó, Sándor Hunyady, Ervin Sinkó) but also of later literature (novels by Péter Esterházy and Benedek Szabolcs).
