abstract:
The aim of this article is to discuss the co-authoring process of a picturebook as a dialogue between us as the author and the author-illustrator. In our analysis, we apply Mikhail Bakhtin’s views about dialogics and use autoethnographic means to describe the creation process. In practice, we analyze our email exchange and other conversations from two angles. First, we examine them as an intertextual dialogue dividing the analysis into three parts: initial negotiations, conflict and consensus. Second, we examine the intratextual dialogue between words and images. We look into how the verbal and the visual interact and how they are building up during the creation process and the intersemiotic translating.
