D. H. Lawrence and Tuscany: Art, Nature, Ideology

Lawrence discusses Tuscany and Florence in a number of short prose writings: "David", "Looking Down on the City", "Fireworks", "Flowery Tuscany", "Volterra". His descriptions of places, people and art work convey the core of his ideology, particularly in the presentation of the difference between the tragic vision of life of northern people and the vital and sensual way of living in the south. A similar contrast is expressed through the comparison between the ancient Roman culture and the Etruscan people.
