Course Objectives

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

In line with the educational objectives of the CdS for which the teaching is offered, the aim is to provide a solid ability to reflect on Italian and to know how to use it to mediate, compare, translate. At the end of the course and after passing the exam, the student must be able to deal with metalinguistic reflection on contemporary Italian; be able to distinguish the different linguistic varieties of Italian; know how to analyze oral and written texts; be able to use the historical lexicographic tools and the use of Italian.


KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY

  • Have a solid background in theoretical and applied linguistics
  • Know the basic vocabulary related to the specialized areas present in the training offer
  • Know different types of texts (essays, manuals, technical, economic-legal, audiovisual, literary) with specific reference to contemporary cultures


APPLICATION ABILITIES

  • Use linguistic analysis procedures at different phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical levels
  • Know how to organize the knowledge acquired functionally for a communicative purpose (written, oral and on the web)
  • Know how to apply the historical-geographical knowledge acquired to socio-linguistic analyses
  • Know how to analyze, critically discuss and communicate the key concepts of the culture and language studied
  • Reflect on social, scientific or ethical issues related to one's field of study


JUDGMENT INDEPENDENCE

  • Acquire the ability to formulate autonomous judgments, in particular on issues related to interaction between cultures
  • Reflect on social, scientific or ethical issues related to one's field of study


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Be able to analyze heterogeneous texts that include visual, tourist, technical texts, etc.


LEARNING SKILLS

  • Develop the learning skills needed to undertake further levels of training
  • Be able to independently use the sources and methodological tools underlying the disciplines of study
  • Be able to improve one's linguistic and expressive skills
  • Be able to recall previous knowledge



Course Prerequisites

For students who have to face the lessons and study of the program of Elements of Italian Grammar, it will be essential and useful to be able to consult a dictionary of use; it is useful to be familiar with the vocabulary and cultured registers of the language; it is important to have a solid competence in written Italian.


Teaching Methods

There are frontal lessons and exercises, during which you can reflect and discuss linguistic forms and texts.


Assessment Methods

The exam is oral. The exam is structured as follows:


- description of one of the stages of the historical path of Italian;

- recognition and definition of the main phonological, morphological, lexical and syntactic-textual traits starting from sentences and portions of text;

- recognition and definition of the typical traits of the different varieties of language.


The exam is held in Italian.


The evaluation will take into account the ability to recognize linguistic phenomena and traits in texts, the syntactic correctness and lexical appropriateness of the exposition, the clarity and completeness of the contents presented, the coherent and conscious use of the technical terminology of linguistics, the ability to judge in the evaluation of a text.


The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths, taking into account a five-level evaluation system: band E (18-19-20), band D (21-22-23), band C (25), band B (26-27), band A (28-29-30 and 30 with honours).
