Nuove ricerche nei settori I-O delle catacombe ebraiche di Venosa

This article describes the results of a short survey carried out in the Jewish catacombs of Venosa in April 2022, mainly aiming to check the state of the inner sectors I-O. These sectors are among those affected by various collapses, both ancient and modern; but although they have been visited several times in the past, up to this day no convincing description has ever been provided. As it happens, despite the damage and collapses, the I-O sectors can be still explored, albeit with some difficulties, and during the new exploration it was possible to ascertain the position and actual state of preservation of various epitaphs, as well as the conformation of various ambulacra and arcosolia. What’s more, in the course of the new survey, a number of new epigraphic fragments have been found.
