Scribes and Scholars in Medieval Ethiopia

The article aims at shedding light on the role played by Ethiopian monks as guardians of the written tradition (a process dating to the very origins of the monastic life) and to give a general idea of how clergymen understood and interpreted their roles as scribes and scholars.
