Abstract:
The way of eating differentiates men from animals, as well as it highlights differences among them. Food has a peculiar symbolic value in every culture, but, when it is used on TV, it causes a mechanism of demythologizing mythologization or demythologization of the myth. In the specific reality of China, food is fixed in the production of two currents of works, which are only apparently distant. On one hand, the "culinary narrative" of food as a symbol of wealth, of the modernity reached by the internationalized and globalized middle class living in the cities, performed by heroic figures of cooks who struggle for supremacy of a taste. On the other, documentaries where we find an imaginary real Chinese culinary tradition, where all the different ethnic groups should recognize themselves. A collage of images, which allow us to understand part of the essence of China today.
