Abstract:
Since 1980s, the German school teacher Philipp Wegener has achieved new attention among linguists for his idea of language as human intercourse, rooted in daily conversation and spontaneous interaction. However, nobody has underlined yet that the unity of his global theory of language is granted by the tacit application of a dialectic model derived from Aristotle’s logic, which was disregarded in Wegener’s time as a valuable tool for grammar and linguistic analysis. Though he used a traditional theoretical apparatus, he nevertheless became an innovator.
Highlighting the logic model upon which Wegener based the opposition between subject and predicate make his conception of language and mind more clear, and his linguistic Grundfragen more in line with the linguistics research carried out nowadays.
