For a Cape Verdian family being able to emigrate is a trump card. In my opinion, immigration laws and the labour market of host countries shape the migrating family itself influenced by the whole phenomenon of migration. The reality of a “Family afar” is grounded in a project to which each member obeys to as to make the best of migratory capital - its rights, duties and debts. There results tension between the family by filiation and that by alliance. Migration is a self evident phenomenon, implying compromise and readjustment, sometimes consequential, if aims are to be met. On occasion psychological disorders might result.
